Storm Damage Inspection

As homeowners, we often underestimate the detrimental effect hail and windstorms can inflict on our roofs. While some damage may be visible from the ground, there are often hidden issues that require a professional inspection to identify. The most common type of roof is made of asphalt shingles, which contain granules that are embedded in shingles to protect it from the elements and enhance the lifespan of your roof. Granule loss is common during the lifespan of all shingles but is dramatically accelerated by hail, wind and debris impact.  When hail strikes your roof, it creates soft spots on the shingles and loosens the granules. 40 MPH winds or higher can also cause damage to your shingles by lifting the shingles and even ripping and tearing them through the nails.  In some cases, the shingles may lay flat again much as it did before, making the damage harder to detect.  Once a shingle is torn it is no longer watertight and jeopardizes the integrity of your roof. Granule loss indicates that the protective coating of your shingles is wearing away which can lead to bald spots and cracked or curled shingles and create the risk of water leaks.

It is important to detect wind or hail damage quickly to ensure your insurance company can provide proper coverage for any repairs needed.
